Biking Through Laos (7 days)

Vang Vieng is a stunning small riverside town and a traveller's paradise, you will take in some of the most spectacular scenery you're ever going to encounter, as this town is located at the foot of the breathtaking mountains and nestled on the banks of the gorgeous Nam Song River. The tour explores Southeast Asia's most laid back capital, Vientiane and the fairy-tale kingdom of Luang Prabang, visiting magnificent temple structures and monuments of national and historical importance. ITINERARY [Day 1] Vientiane Arrival Upon arrival in Vientiane, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel for check-in. Then our guide will give you brief instruction on our bikes as well as biking route. Have free time at your leisure until being picked up for a warmly welcome dinner at Khua Lao restaurant with traditional Laotian music and dance performance. [Day 2] Vientiane Loop This morning, we will gear up to the outskirt of the city for a full day excursion. Make a stop at the city's oldest temple of Wat Sasiket. Riding along Mekong river which flows between Laos and Thailand, we will then reach Buddha Park located by the river bank where you can have picnic lunch. On the way back to Vientiane on another road, we make a stop at the Victory Monument and climb to the top for a panoramic view of the city. We will then visit That Luang, the biggest stupa of Buddha's relics, proudly regarded as a symbol of the country. Back to your hotel and have free time for refreshment. Late afternoon, we'll meet Ms. Carol Cassidy and have an overview of the traditional Laotian weaving art. Carol has contributed greatly to reviving this old art of silk weaving. This is followed by a cocktail and dinner party hosted by Carol. [Day 3] Vientiane – Vang Vieng Leave your hotel early this morning, we take a half-an-hour drive heading to Vang Vieng then hop on bikes on a quiet road the beautiful countryside, passing the rice fields, colourful Buddhist temples and the H'Mong market along the way. Make a stop by a lake in Tha Lat village for a picnic lunch. After that, take a drive to Vang Vieng and visit Tham Jang Cave before checking into your hotel by the Nam Song riverbank. Rest of the day is at your leisure or have the town's exploration on your own bike acrossing river to Phepouak Cave and enjoy swimming in the stream at the mountain foot. Back to hotel for shower before BBQ dinner in the hotel's garden. [Day 4] Vang Vieng - Luang Prabang Saying goodbye to Vang Vieng, we head to Luang Prabang with up and down hill ride. Make a stop at a H'mong village on the way then continue our ride into the valley surrounded by endlessly stretching limestone mountains. Lunch at a local restaurant on the way. After that, challenge yourself on a big climb up to the Phu Khuan intersection and take a drive to Luang Prabang. [Day 5] Luang Prabang Surrounding Today, we will ride through the French-colonial town heading to Pak Ou cave along winding road with up and down hills. Stop at Phannom for meet up with Tailu ethnic people who originally came from China a few centuries ago, and learn about their traditional method of silk weaving. We spend more time riding in rural roads until arriving at Nam Ou river where we take a short boat trip across the river to Pak Ou cave. The cave attracts a lot of Buddhist pilgrims from all over the country as well as visitors thanks to the display of thousands Buddha statues at a wide range of sizes. Cruise back to Luang Prabang for lunch at a local restaurant in town then we hop on bikes for a visit to Phone Say village, which hides itself along Mekong river. Make a call at local houses for a touch of their daily life before enjoying beautiful scenery under sunset with Mekong Silk boat (best from November to April). [Day 6] Luang Prabang Today will be a good day out of the town and get into the tranquility world of Kuangsi waterfall, 30km south of Luang Prabang with a challenging up and down hill ride. Upon arrival in the lush green protected forest area of Kuangsi water fall, you will have plenty of time for relaxing and swimming in the clear & cool water. Have picnic lunch before heading back to Luang Prabang. Make visits to the Royal Palace, also known as National museum, and the oldest Buddhist temple of Wat Xiengthong dated back to 17th century. [Day 7] Luang Prabang Departure Free time at your leisure until being transferred to the airport for departure flight. Trip ends. Notes: N/A PRICE PER PERSON (Valid until 31 Dec 2012)
