The Bolaven Plateau is located in an ancient volcano that erupted millions of years ago, the area spans 50 km of Southern most vegetated area. It is green all year round and cooler than the rest of Laos and Thailand. Surrounding the plateau there are a number of protected national parks, dramatic waterfalls, remote hill tribes, dense jungle and a taste of some of the world's best coffee beans. ITINERARY [Day 1] Bolaven Plateau Situated on the north east of Champassak province, the Bolaven plateau covers parts of Salavan, Attapeu and Sekong provinces. It is fertile farmland specializing in coffee, tea, cardamom and fruit. The plateau houses a dozen mainly animist ethnic minorities, including Laven, Alak, Katou, Ta-Oy, Houne, Ngai and Suk communities. Young people smoking tobacco in a water pipe to keep away the mosquitoes at night. The Tad Lo waterfall is an ideal place for trekking and elephant rides (optional). Lunch is at a local restaurant before being transferred back to town.
