ITINERARY [Day 1] Wat Phou Temple In the morning, you will be driven out of town about 40km crossing a local ferry to the famous Wat Phou temple, which dates back to the 5th century. The original temple was built by the Khmer Hindus at the top hill of a fresh water spring. The peak of the hill is said to resemble a lingum or Shiva Phallus. The exact history of Wat Phu is unclear, but was certainly the site of a temple that Khmer empire eventually made Ankor Wat its capital. The temple is stunning, and very remote, with superb views of the Mekong valley. There are numbers of carved rocks, resembling crocodile, naga and elephant at the top of the temple site. It is believed that these rocks were used for human sacrifice. Lunch is at a local restaurant before being transferred back to town.
