Living In A Red River Delta Ancient Village (2 days)

This tour takes you to one of the few remaining old villages in Northern. Unlike most communities near Hanoi that have succumbed to rapid urbanization, Ky Son and Duong Lam village is known as the best preserved villages in Vietnam in terms of its ancient architecture and the unique character of its people. Staying in an ancient house among your amazing "neighbors", working in the field, cooking Vietnamese dinner or learning about Vietnamese tradition will give you a glimpse into the daily lives of people on the Red River Delta. ITINERARY [Day 1] Hanoi – Ky Son We leave Hanoi in the morning and drive out of the city toward Ky Son village. This is an ancient Viet village of the most friendly local farmers who you will meet and interact with you through this two days trip. There are more than a hundred families living in this village, and most of them are farmers. Upon arrival, you will enjoy a local specialty ‘welcome drink’ before a short introduction to the house, kitchen and garden before joining the host for a home-cook lunch. After lunch, you will have a brief discussion with the host about the village, the local life; learn some basic Vietnamese words and the traditions of the Vietnamese. We will continue cycling through the villages. You can have choice of a short ride of 6 km or a long ride of 12 km round trip. Visiting families along the way as you will be invited in for a cup of tea and a very friendly chat… The host will not forget to ask you to bring a long a bamboo basket which you will take to the village field, pick up some herbal medicine for the traditional style bath this afternoon. You will be meeting with many local farmers in the field, take some sweet corn, sweet potatoes and vegetable (depending on the season) back to the homestay… Enjoy an herbal bath before dinner. The night here is the most precious moment after full afternoon activities. Enjoy the quiet night in the court yard full of candle light while the host does a Buddhism chanting for peace and good health. [Day 2] Ky Son – Hanoi Wake up in the peaceful morning with fresh air, we will do a morning exercise or you will join the host for a 30 minute Taichi. We enjoy a breakfast before helping the host to prepare offerings for ancestor worship, a Vietnamese tradition to honor and show deep gratitude to their ancestor. We take an easy walking around the village for further discovery of countryside, interacting with the locals to learn about their daily life and farming. Visit the villager's bee house. Or (if required) you can help with plowing or making ricebeds, transplanting seedlings, harvesting rice (orcassava, corn, sweet potatoes, cucumber...) depending on the harvest season. You can visit the kindergarten (Closed on Sat, Sun, and Holidays) and go to the village market, then back to Moon Garden. After lunh, you can make yourself at home relaxing on the hammock in our garden, taking pictures with Vietnamese traditional cloths and chatting with people or further discovery of the KySon village and around. We say goodbye to the host family to drive back to Hanoi.
